Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops(I.L.S.T.)

Dates and Times Coming Soon!!
A Scoutmaster’s most important job is… to Train the Senior Patrol Leader.
When was the last time your Troop conducted…
  • Junior Leader Training (a great course but replaced by TLT and NYLT)
  • Troop Leader Training (another great course, but replaced MANY years ago with ILST)
  • Introduction to Leadership for Troops (ILST) – Today’s version of all the preceding trainings – and also a prerequisite for Scouts to attend National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)

Hazy on these answers?  Then you should plan to attend the ILST WORKSHOP – scheduled to be held at the University of Scouting on March 19th.
This will be a ‘course within a course’ and is specifically designed for the Scoutmaster and the Senior Patrol Leader to attend. - First – we will introduce the why and the how of conducting ILST (which is designed to be delivered at the TROOP LEVEL). - Then – we will conduct an ILST Training for all present. This will pre-qualify all SPLs to attend NYLT. - And Then – we will talk about how each individual Troop will present ILST when they get back to their units.
This is a great opportunity to take your unit closer to a Boy Led Troop – by training not only the Scoutmaster – but the Senior Patrol Leader at the same time.

Learn what is expected of each leader in leading the Troop. Communicate back and forth. Understand how to carry this to the next level within your Troop.

Participant Guidelines:  We will be accepting up to 2 Youth Leaders and up to 2 Adult Leaders per Troop, but no unaccompanied youth. One of the Youth Leaders should be the SPL.  One of the Adult Leaders should be the SM.  One additional youth leader, perhaps an ASPL or an up and coming PL may attend.  One additional Adult Leader may attend, but should be an ASM. This training is designed for youth and adults.  Please keep in mind that those attending are expected to run ILST in your Troop - for everyone - upon the completion of this training.
