Scouting's Salute to Veterans Parade

A Timeless Tradition...
The Scouting's Salute to Veterans Parade is a cherished tradition within the Green Mountain Council, embodying the spirit of honor, community, and patriotism. Established in 1999 by Pete Whitaker, a dedicated Boy Scout leader and high school history teacher from Richmond, this parade has grown to attract thousands of scouts, veterans, and spectators annually.

Every year, this beloved event journeys to a different Vermont community, infusing each locale with a sense of pride and unity. From the bustling streets of Burlington to the quaint charm of Windsor, and from the scenic landscapes of Waterbury to the historic town of Bennington, the parade has graced numerous towns including Barre, Essex Junction, Northfield, and, of course, its birthplace, Richmond.

The organization of the parade is a collaborative effort, with a local organizing committee of Scouting Volunteers and Veterans working together to ensure each event is memorable and impactful. The parade is a vibrant tapestry of civic groups, marching bands, and enthusiastic Scouts, all coming together to pay tribute to our nation's heroes.

Civic groups, bands, and all Scouts are warmly welcomed and encouraged to participate, showcasing their reverence and gratitude for the sacrifices made by our veterans. This annual event not only honors the brave men and women who have served our country but also instills a deep sense of community and civic responsibility in all who attend.

Join us in this timeless tradition as we march in unity, celebrate our veterans, and continue to foster the values of respect and service that define the Scouting movement.
