Scouting Salute to Veterans 2020

Picture
The Green Mountain Council has honored the American Legion's decision to suspend its support of this year's Veterans Day Parade.  While we will not be assembling in Ludlow on November 7 to renew our annual tradition, there are many new and safe ways to honor our America's heroes.

Choose your path to honor America's servicemen and women this November!

Please register and fill out this form if you are participating in any of the following activities.

Join the Bennington Event

Participate to the Scouting salute to Veterans event at the Vermont Veterans' Home in Bennington on November 11th at 11AM. This will be a great occasion to gather as a Scout Family and perform a ceremony right in front of the Vermont Veterans' Home while waving at our national heroes. Due to Covid we are limiting the event to 150 people, first come first served. Find more details here.

Act Local

Contact your local Veteran organization to inquire how you can support the veterans in your community or how you can participate in local remembrances.
Please find a list of VFWs and American Legions at this link.

Get Creative

There are so many ways in which you can honor our veterans this November and don’t forget to share your action on our Facebook page Green Mountain Council, BSA.
Below you can find some Veterans Day Good Turn Ideas:
  • Organizing a socially distanced cleanup effort at your town or villages memorial
  • Organizing a flag ceremony or drive through salute at a Veterans home, retirement community or other assisted living facility
  • Teach your scouts about Veterans Day. Find resources at this links:
    https://www.va.gov/opa/vetsday/vetdayhistory.asp
    https://www.va.gov/opa/vetsday/docs/2020-Veterans-Day-Teachers-Guide.pdf

You can still send us a video clip by Thursday 11/12 in which you are saluting our Veterans!

We will create a video that will be broadcast inside the Vermont Veterans’ Home TV station and that will be post on social media and our website!
Make sure to fill out and send this Video Release form while sending the video.
Please drop you video in this dropbox folder together with your video release forms (one form per each scout, sign by parents or guardians).
