We are offering 2 classes, with the possibility of a third during resident camp. If you’re coming with your Troop Weeks 1 or 2, and possibly 5, the cost for the course is $115.
If you are not coming to camp, but would like to attend the course, the cost is $155 (includes room and meals).
There is also an option of having a third class, week 5, if we reach the minimum class size of 12 participants (currently at 9).
This is a 16-hour course held on Wednesday and Thursday. Certification is good for two years.
Course dates are:
Week one – July 10th & 11th
Week two – July 17th & 18th
Week five – August 7th & 8th (tentative)
If you know of a Scouter that could benefit from this course, please forward this note.
Scouts 14 or over that are attending camp can also sign up this course.
The Boy Scouts of America defines the need for Wilderness First Aid as being an hour or more away from advanced care. WFA courses are intended for anyone planning a remote high adventure, from lay responders to medical professionals.
All four of the BSA high-adventure bases (HAB) require at least one person per trek (two per trek at Philmont Scout Ranch) to be current in WFA through one of the BSA’s approved providers. Of course, having more participants trained in WFA skills is highly recommended for any high adventure or backcountry experience.
Here is a link to more information and the registration form. If you are attending camp the same week, you can also sign up through Tentaroo.
