Summer Camping Programs were a Great Success!

From the two quality Cub Scout Day Camps in Three Rivers and Long Trail districts, to the return of Frontier Camp, to the energy and excitement created by the staffs of Camp Sunrise and Mt Norris Scout Reservation, summer camp program in the Green Mountain Council was the best it has been in some time.   This is most evident from the leader and camper evaluations of their experiences in the camps they attended, as well as feedback from other staff members and visitors to the events.  All in all, 2016 summer camping in the Green Mountain Council was the beginning of some even better summers yet to come!   Here are some reasons why and why every pack and troop should plan now to attend one or more of the 2017 camps:

Mt Norris Scout Reservation:  Under the leadership of Camp Director Bill McDonald, Program Director Russ Baker, Business Manager, Glenn Macy, and Camp Ranger, Gordie Moulton, this “key 4” worked tirelessly and successfully rebuilding the staff, creating new and fun programs for all Scouts and improved the overall physical appearance of the camp in many ways.  This team already is thinking 2017 and are looking forward to increasing attendance with so much confidence, they have added a 5th week of camp to prepare for the influx of troops who want to come home to Mt Norris.  The 2017 campsite reservation form and campsite availability chart can be accessed under the camping tab on the Council website.  Act quickly because sites have filled up from almost every troop that attended this year is already signed up for 2017.  For more information on Mt Norris Summer camp, contact Bill at billmcd04@gmail.com or Russ Bakers at rusbaker@gmavt.net.

Camp Director Dave Sem and Program Director Albert Koch were simply outstanding in giving leadership in the rebuilding and rollout of Frontier Camp after taking a year off to evaluate the program and organize the staff.  In the end the camp hit a home run in its debut offering some of the great traditional events of the camp program as well as adding some new and different things to do.  All in all, Frontier Camp is back and now that the first year of uncertainty is behind them, Dave and his team are looking forward to an even bigger and better year in 2017.  For more information on Frontier Camp, contact Dave Sem at dsemvt@gmail.com or Albert Koch at albert.koch@gmail.com.

With the theme of Super Heroes, Camp Director, John Dyer and Program Director Peter Massari, Jr. took their experienced staff and created another memorable summer of fun and adventure for the Cub Scout campers and parents who attended Cam Sunrise this summer.  For many campers this was their first experience with any type of short or long term camping and the Sunrise staff is excellent at making every camper feel welcome and comfortable in the camp setting.  While those who have been at the camp know and understand, it cannot be emphasized enough that once a Cub Scout and/or parent attends the camp, they are hooked and will continue to come back for more reasons than there is space in this article to list.  For more information on Camp Sunrise contact John Dyer at jdyerjr82@gmail.com, or Peter Massari, Jr. at pj.mass_jr@yahoo.com.

On a smaller scale but equally as much fun, the Super Heroes theme was the base for two Cub Adventure Weekends, spearheaded by longtime Director Judy McCullen and a great support staff.  These events are perfect for families who have not experienced Camp Sunrise and are looking for a family camp getaway and a ton of fun!  For more information on Cub Adventure Weekends, contact Judy at jhmccullen@yahoo.com.
