Scouts, Parents, Leaders, and Volunteers,
We hope this message finds you all safe and healthy during these difficult times. As the weather is improving and there is a lot of media coverage about restrictions being lifted across the country, we feel it is important and timely to provide an update on our summer camping programs.
We are monitoring this situation daily. Our camp leadership is participating in weekly conference calls with the National Outdoor Program staff discussing most recent research and updates from the CDC. Our Medical Director is monitoring the latest information from the Department of Health and CDC. As the Governor mentioned yesterday in his press conference, he has a team working on recommendations for summer camps and programs and he expects them to release their findings sometime next week.
Considering the current unpredictability, we have decided to have only one fee for the summer. The early bird fee for resident camps will apply for all registrations. In the event we are unable to provide a traditional summer camp experience, we will issue refunds.
Since the Scout Motto is Be Prepared, our council and camp leadership is not only preparing for our summer camp programs to proceed in a traditional manner, but also exploring alternative models. We will Do Our Best to find meaningful and exciting opportunities for youth to engage in our Scouting program in some capacity this summer. We hope to make a final decision in the next few weeks about what our programs will look like.
We appreciate your patience and understanding through these challenging circumstances. While we feel an obligation to provide quality summer programming to our scouts, our priority is first and foremost the health and safety of our Scouts, volunteers, and staff, and any and all decisions made about our summer programs will weigh these factors above all else.
Yours in Scouting,
Dave McAllister
Council President
