A reminder to all unit leaders and parents that May 1st is the deadline for the Early Bird summer camp rate for Camp Sunrise, Frontiers Camp and Mt Norris Summer Camp. Spread the word and avoid paying a higher fee for a great summer camp experience wherever the Scouts decide to attend. For more information on all summer camp rates, go to the Council website at www.scoutingvermont.org and click on Camping. Choose the camp the unit or Scout is planning to attend and review the camp fee schedule and amount due.
Some other summer camp reminders:
• Don’t forget the Webelos who crossed over, or who are eligible to cross over, to Boy Scouts. Mt Norris has a great first year camp program for these boys to get them off to a great start toward their First Class rank. Norris also offers provisional camping for Scouts who cannot attend with their troop or a troop that cannot find leadership for the week.
• Camp Sunrise Cub Scout camp offers a ½ week program designed for Packs who may not be able to get leadership for the entire week, or for parents and Cub Scouts who are more comfortable with a few days at camp if they are unsure about spending the full week. However, history has proven that once the Scout gets to camp, he wants to stay AND, wants to come back again!
• Frontiers Camp is a themed week of fun, adventure, and new experiences that every Scout should try at least once. It is a provisional camp, meaning that leadership is provided for the Scouts upon arrival. But again, like Camp Sunrise, history has proven that once the Scout attends Frontiers Camp, he wants to come back for more the following year. In addition, many Scouts who attend Frontier Camp also go to a Boy Scout summer camp with their troop later in the summer. Scouts who choose this option get a significant discount in their camp fee (see camp payment schedule for details).
• Cub Adventure Weekends will be offered at both camps this summer. Camp Sunrise will host Cub Scouts and their families July 14-16 and new for 2017, Mt Norris Cub Adventure Weekend July 28-30. Registration information can be found on the Council website.
• Long Trail and Three Rivers districts are offering week long Cub Scout Day Camps. Detailed information can be found under the Camping tab on the Council website
o Three Rivers District – June 26-30 at the Champlain Valley Fairgrounds in Essex Junction.
o Long Trail District – July 31 to August 4 – Berlin LDS Church grounds
For more information on any of these programs, contact the Council Service Center at 802-244-5189.
