Some reminders to leaders/parents in preparation for summer camps

The summer camping season will be here before we know it and many of you are planning to have the Pack or Troop spend time at Camp Sunrise or Mt Norris Scout Reservation, or have Scouts who are signed up or wanting to attend Frontiers Camp, Cub Adventure Weekends or Cub Scout Day Camps.  In preparation, here are a few reminders to take back to the other parents and committee members.

  1. Payment schedule for Camp Sunrise and Mt Norris:  Over 400 Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts took advantage of the $100 per person deposit due by March 1st to get the Super Early Bird summer camp rate of $365, assuming the balance of the fees due are paid by June 1st.100 deposit.  If you missed this, the next plan is the Early Bird rate of $395 per Scout, which is due in full by June 1st.   Fees for reservations made after June 1st is the regular camp rate of $425 per person.
  2. Webelos and new Scouts:  Keep in mind that Webelos who crossed over after March 1st (or new Scouts), and want to go to camp, qualify for the Super Early Bird rate of $365 if paid by June 1st.   Also keep in mind that Camp Sunrise has a great program designed specifically and only for Webelos working on Arrow of Light.  Bottom line,  Don’t Forget the Webelos!  It has been proven over the years that a boy who joins Scouting and in his first year attends a resident summer camp and earns the rank of First Class, has a much better chance of staying in the program for an average of five years.
  3. Frontiers Camp is filling up.  This is really a unique camping experience conducted at Mt Norris Scout Reservation.   Early bird registration fee of $285 expires May 1st.  Don’t miss this great deal for an even greater camping experience!
  4. Family Scouting camping options.  Two Cub Adventure Weekends in July are the ideal family camping experience for both male and female Cub Scouts and their parents.   July 13-15 at Mt Norris Scout Reservation, and July 27-29 at Camp Sunrise.  In addition, two Cub Scout Day Camps are scheduled, one the last week in June at the Champlain Valley Expo in Essex Jct, and the second last week of July first part of August at the LDS church in Berlin.  Both are a great summertime pack program that will keep the Scouts engaged and enthused.
  5. Pack and troop leadership are highly encouraged to work together to ensure every Webelos in the state is invited to join a Boy Scout troop.   Don’t wait for one or the other to initiate contact.  Take it upon yourself to make the call.   If a leader or parent is unsure of what the nearest unit is, contact the Council Service Center at 802-244-5189 or email info@scoutingvermont.org.
