The Green Mountain Council, B.S.A. is pleased to announce that Eric Benedict, of Middlesex, has been chosen to serve as a Second Assistant Scoutmaster in the BSA Contingent at the next World Scout Jamboree, to be held at the Summit High Adventure Center in West Virginia from July 22—August 2, 2019. 2019 marks the first time since 1967 that a World Scout Jamboree has been held in the United States. The official designation is the “North American“ World Scout Jamboree, in that the event will be jointly hosted by Scouts Canada, the Boy Scouts of America, and the Scouting Association of Mexico.
50,000 participants are expected, from all corners of the world having recognized Scouts and Guides Associations. Our troops will camp in the midst of neighbors from a rich blend of cultures and nationalities, all friends who have committed to the Scout Oath, Law and ideals.
Eric Benedict’s home troop is Troop 709, sponsored by Bethany Church in Montpelier. He and his family have also been actively involved in Pack 777, sponsored by the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. He is active on the Long Trail District Committee and is a third generation Eagle Scout, having earned the Eagle honor in 1985 with Troop 337 of the Southwest Michigan Council (now Michigan Crossroads Council), B.S.A. Dr. Benedict is an electrical engineer, working for Analog Devices, Inc. in Colchester.
Green Mountain Council Scouts will attend the World Scout Jamboree in a troop comprised of Scouts from nearby Councils, including the Twin Rivers Council in Albany. Dr. Benedict will serve as Second Assistant Scoutmaster. All Scouts and parents are encouraged to sign up to attend this world class and once in a lifetime event, by accessing the BSA's 24th World Scout Jamboree USA webpage: https://wsj2019.us.
Anyone having particular questions as to details of GMC World Scout Jamboree participation or the Jamboree experience is encouraged to contact Walt Morris, GMC WSJ Chair, at walter.m.morris@gmail.com, for further information.
