Family Scouting has officially arrived in the Green Mountain Council. Beginning June 11th, all Cub Scout age girls who joined a Pack are now officially registered in the BSA! This is a very significant and exciting time for Scouting in Vermont, and for the Boy Scouts of America in general.
There are several packs across the Council that have eagerly and aggressively embraced the recruitment of girls. Parents of these same new Cub Scouts have become engaged in the program and overall support of the new dens that are forming. There are other pack committees that have taken a more conservative “wait and see” approach, and may decide to wait until the fall to begin recruitment. Unit leadership and the chartered partners need to be comfortable and on the same page with the direction the Pack wants to go with its membership.
To that end, the Green Mountain Council website now has an icon up on the home page titled, “Family Scouting – Scout Me In”. Click on it and it will take you to links with the most current information on the Family Scouting program at both the local Council and National BSA levels. It is a good resource to use as the unit leaders and other adults begin to provide a quality program; a program that delivers character development, citizenship responsibility, personal fitness and leadership skills to an entire new group of young people!
