For the past month, volunteers and Council staff of the Green Mountain Council have been in the midst of making contact and presentations to parents and leaders of our Scouting units about the value and importance of becoming a “Friend of Scouting”. That will continue with a goal of 100% unit participation so every parent can hear the story and make his or her own decision on what type and amount of investment to make
Friends of Scouting (FOS) is a monetary donation to the Scouting program that is then reinvested back into the program throughout the year in the form of summer camp support, training of leaders and youth, customer service for all unit leaders and parents, and having the financial resources to grow and market the values of Scouting throughout the state.
Your gift and understanding of the importance of this part of the Scouting program is recognized and appreciated. If you have not yet heard the story, it is conducted at a pack or troop meeting and with a 10 minute, low key presentation where a majority of parents are in attendance. Talk to your troop or pack leader to see if a presentation has been scheduled for your unit. If not, now is the time. Contact your local district staff member and let them know. They will be sure someone is on-site to do the presentation.
Last year every district in the Council achieved its family Friends of Scouting goal and collectively raised just under $83,000, a sure sign that the parents and leaders of this Council know and understand how important this campaign is to the overall success of Scouting in Vermont.
