Life Scouts who believe it may not be possible to complete the Eagle Scout rank requirements before their 18th birthday due to circumstances caused by COVID-19 may apply for an extension. National BSA recognizes that completion of merit badges and Eagle projects may be difficult in these times, and has delegated authority to local Councils, thru September 30, to grant extensions of up to three months beyond the Scout's 18th birthday.
Scouts should apply by downloading THIS FORM. Fill in the top portion, and in the box indicate how COVID-19 is affecting their timeline. No further documentation is required at this time. Send the form to Mark Saxon (Mark.Saxon@scouting.org) or Ken Bell (kjbell66@hotmail.com). A written response indicating the outcome of the request will go to the Scout, who must attach it to their Eagle application.
Many merit badge counselors are available virtually, electronic signatures are acceptable, and other temporary advancement modifications have been made so that Scouting may continue. See COVID-19 FAQ and SCOUT ON!
