The Green Mountain Council Alumni Committee has selected its 2018 and 2019 award recipients.
Paul Stanilonis, a long-time volunteer from Vergennes in the Ethan Allen District has been selected for 2018. Paul served on the Camp Sunrise Camp Staff and as a member of the Council Executive Board. He was Chair of the Council Risk Management Committee and served as the Council Physician for many years overseeing the health and safety of the Scouts in summer camps and helping resolve medical issues as they arose on a consistent basis. He was instrumental in the development of Camp Sunrise giving leadership to fundraising for new buildings and providing expertise on the property including forest management and water quality.
John Hitchcock, a volunteer and long tome Scout leader from Wilder in the Calvin Coolidge District was recently selected at the 2019 award recipient. John is an active member of Order of the Arrow, Wood Badge Alumni and past Scoutmaster of Troop 232 in White River Junction. He is an avid trap shooter and uses his fine talent and skills as a finished Carpenter to provide Green Mountain Council with a variety of quality frames, signs, interior cabinets and much more for the camps and the Council Service Center.
Both John and Paul will be honored with the Alumnus of the Year award as part of the Green Mountain Council Alumni and Friends event August 2-4, 2019 at Mt Norris Scout Reservation. The award ceremony will take place on Saturday, August 3rd around 4:30 PM at the camp dining hall.
Everyone is invited to attend to share in the ceremony and celebration with these two outstanding individuals as they receive this award. If you plan to attend, please contact Arlene at the Council Service Center at 802-244-5189 or email at arlene.matheson@scouting.org. Dinner will follow the ceremony followed by an evening campfire and cracker-barrel in the dining hall. If you not already registered for the Alumni event and want to stay for dinner, the cost is $10.00, and reservations are required by July 30th. No walk-ins.
This is the highlight of a full day of activities, patch trade-o-rees, Scouting history displays of patches, uniforms, books and more. The Mt Norris Alumni Association members will be on hand to provide tours of the camp along with representatives of Wood Badge training, Order of the Arrow and much more.
