Scouting for Food - Rescheduled

4/2/2018

 Rescheduled scouting for food information:

Scouting for food is an amazing service project opportunity for your units to help give back to your local communities.
The Way it works, is on Saturday April 28th your units distribute bags to collect the recommended food. The following weekend, Saturday May 5, units go back out and pick up the bags to bring to the food shelf of there choosing.

This is a great way to have all of Long Trail participate in a District wide service project and best yet, pick up is on Green up day so Units will be out and about anyways!
All I ask is after collection  you send me a short participation form that will include Unit number, how many participated and how many food bags collected.
Each Unit that participates will receive a ribbon! Patches will be for sale after this event as well. Keep eyes open for details on patches.

Included in this email is a FAQ sheet, Flyer and Door to door handout flyers.

If you have Questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks

District Awards Dinner

3/10/2018

It is that time of year again where volunteers, leaders, etc. get to recognized for their efforts put forth all year long in front of everyone at the Long Trail District Award Dinner. This is an exciting opportunity to nominate anyone in the unit for different awards offered through the district. This year the dinner has been moved to a Saturday rather than week day to help with scheduling travel time. We don’t just want our leaders and volunteers at this dinner, we want their families as well to watch them get recognized for their hard work.

Please note that this dinner is open to ANYONE to attend. An official invitation has been attached with details for the dinner.

Also, I have attached the nomination forms for the different awards. Please go over these nominations at your next committee meeting and send them in by APRIL 10TH.

This year we have also added a Survey Monkey option to submit your nominations as well. The links can be found below:

Long Trail District Pinewood Derby

2/19/2018

Announcing the 2018 District Pinewood Derby! Come one, come all to race against each other and see who is the fastest of the fast!

2018’s Long Trail District Pinewood Derby will be held Saturday April 7th in the gymnasium of the Spaulding High School in Barre, VT. Registration starts at 10:00 am and racing at 11:30 am.

This Pinewood Derby is open to ALL Cub Scouts in the Long Trail District!

This activity allows each Cub Scout to build a Pinewood Derby car each year with the assistance and guidance of an adult. The Cub Scout is encouraged to do as much of the design and craftsmanship himself with minimal help from adult supervision. The Cub Scout should learn about completing a project, as well as fair and honest sportsmanship in competition.
It is critical that Cub Scouts compete against only Cub Scouts, and not enthusiastic adults. All adult leaders and relatives of the Cub Scout are encouraged to build a car of their own and enter in the “Open Class” category if they want to participate. The “Open Class” rules for the cars are the same criteria used for the Cubs. Your car must meet the requirements.

You will want to read the entire Pinewood Derby Rules document. Specific details of the car dimensions and weight are all provided there.

To attend you should register with your pack. While it is possible to register at the door it is cheaper to register ahead of time with your pack. Cub Leaders can download  and print the registration form.

In addition we have made a flyer that you can print for publicizing the event with your unit.

Scouting for Food

2/19/2018

Scouting for Food is a service project activity throughout the council whereby we collect food items for redistribution to shelters, food pantries, and other places where the food can be provided to those people that need it most. This year the distribution of flyers and bags is scheduled for March 3rd with food pickup on March 10th.

The FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) should be read by all.

Here is a PDF for labels that explain the process to donors.

Here's a form to track your service time and report it back to the council office so that we can see the big picture of just how much of a "Good Turn Daily" the scouts were able to accomplish with this project!

Reminder: Annual Fee Change

11/9/2017

A reminder that the BSA membership annual fee will increase from $24 to $33 effective December 1, 2017.  Please be sure that all of the new youth and adult applications that have been collected in the last two months from recruitment nights, open houses and other events are submitted with payment to the Service Center in Waterbury before the end of this month.   This will avoid any additional charges that will need to be added due to this change and may delay the registration of those youth or adults into the BSA national system.    If you have applications and need assistance to get them to the Service Center, please let me know and we can make arrangements to help.

Thank you for your leadership in Scouting and for all you do for the youth of your community, and for helping these new families experience the Scouting program.
