]]><![CDATA[Eagle Project Approvals]]>Tue, 26 May 2020 23:43:47 GMThttps://www.scoutingvermont.org/ethan-allen-district-news/eagle-project-approvals1656503Summer is a great time for Life Scouts to work on their Eagle Projects which makes now the perfect time to get a project approved!  Here are some tips for preparing Life Scouts for their Eagle Project:
  • Use the most recent Eagle Scout Project Workbook which is available here
  • Fill out the Project Proposal and Fundraising Application completely and legibly (typed is preferred)
  • Get the required signatures in the order they appear on the form
  • Send the completed proposal to Dean Silloway with a Self Addressed Stamped Return Envelope for Ethan Allen District Approval: Dean Silloway, 421 Orchard Hl, Pittsford, VT 05763
  • Refer to the Eagle Scout Procedures Guide located here to answer any questions regarding Life to Eagle
  • The BSA COVID-19 FAQ located here contains information about obtaining Eagle in the current environment

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! The Festival of the Scouting Kingdom is set to begin on
Saturday, October 5th, 2019 at 9 AM at Camp Sunrise in Benson. 

Troops are encouraged to set up camp on Friday, October 4th anytime after 6 PM - but must check in at the office first.

Come prepared for the best Festival of the Scouting Kingdom! 
          Fun Games! Delicious Food! Great Fellowship!
Patrols are asked to bring an event (medieval or scouting skills theme) for the morning activities.
Other activities to be prepared for include:
           · Archery Competition
           · Toss the Apples (Catapult Competition)
           · Heraldry Competition
           · Feed the Royal Court Competition
           · Closing Campfire Skits
           · Flag retirement ceremony

It was a very enjoyable evening with many friends and Scouters.
Thank you to the Rutland Auxiliary VFW for the delicious meal.

The following Scouters were recognized for their contributions:
  • Nicole Powell from Pack 116 West Rutland was presented the "Spark Plug" award,  for her energy and Scout spirit.
  • Heidi Weihelm from Pack 536 Middlebury was presented with the "Spark Plug" award for her energy and creativity supporting a growing Pack.
  • Ben Powell from Pack 116 West Rutland for Cubmaster of the year. Keep up the good work!
  • Paul Dansereau from Troop 334 Scoutmaster of the year. Thank you for your commitment!
  • Sarah-Lynne Carrara from Pittsford for District Award of Merit. She has done an excellent job in helping to prepare many of the latest Cub and Scouts BSA activities for our District.
  • Shawn Therrien from Vergennes for District award of Merit. Shawn has been an active member of the District committee. along with helping to assist in a number of different District activities.

]]><![CDATA[Green Mountain Council, BSA welcomes Billy Gillam, Jr to the Council staff]]>Fri, 29 Mar 2019 18:35:24 GMThttps://www.scoutingvermont.org/ethan-allen-district-news/green-mountain-council-bsa-welcomes-billy-gillam-jr-to-the-council-staffScout Executive, Ed McCollin announced that Billy Gillam, Jr has accepted the position of District Executive for the Ethan Allen District of the Green Mountain Council.
 
In his role, Billy will be responsible for the Scouting programs in Addison, Rutland and Bennington counties focusing on growing Scouting and supporting the hundreds of volunteers who serve as leaders for the Scouting units in the district.
 
Billy is a native of Rutland Vermont and has extensive background in customer and community service with experience in the food service and hotel industry.  He is an active member of the Rutland Salvation Army and serves on the Board of Alderman for the City of Rutland.
 
“He is a welcome addition to the Green Mountain Council team filling a position that has been vacant for some time, stated McCollin.  We look forward to him using his skill set and relationships to move the programs of Scouting in a positive direction, creating awareness and excitement about Scouting in the area he serves.”
