Winter was rapidly approaching and the old camp truck just wasn’t going to make it through the cold months due to a number of mechanical and costly issues. The camp properties committee and camp ranger knew how important it was to find a reliable vehicle that could keep the roads plowed open for the upcoming Winter Treks, as well as being able to move camp equipment and building materials in and out of camp. As Christmas Day approached, Green Mountain Council received a gift that will last a very long time. Through the generosity of the George Mergens Foundation, a 2017 Chevrolet four wheel drive pick up truck, complete with snow plow, was purchased and picked up by the Camp Ranger and in camp just in time for the first significant snow fall of the year.
The leadership of the George Mergens Foundation have been long time supporters of Scouting in Vermont providing an annual and significant Friends of Scouting gift, financial support to Scouts to participate at Philmont Scout Ranch, Northern Tier Canoe Base and the other BSA High Adventure Camping programs. They believe in what Scouting can do for young people and invest the foundation funds in ways that have the biggest and most sustainable impact on the Council properties, programs and Scouts. A huge thank you goes out to the leadership of the George Mergens Foundation for all of the support they have given to Scouting in Vermont. It is noticed and very much appreciated.
