Advancement/Recognition

It is the responsibility of the District Advancement and Recognition Committee to:

• Help unit leaders establish and maintain proper advancement procedures in their units.
• Monitor advancement progress and identify units that may need assistance.
• Recruit and train Merit Badge Counselors, publishing a current list annually.
• Review and approve service project plans submitted by Eagle Candidates.
• Participate in troop boards of review and conduct district-level boards of review for Eagle Scout candidates.
• Consider and act on appeals from Eagle Scout candidates.
• Recommend youth members or adult Scouters for special awards and recognition.
• Provide physical facilities and experts in advancement fields that are difficult for units to secure.

Rank Requirement Changes for 2011

The centennial edition of the Boy Scout Handbook is now available. The rank requirement changes that were introduced in the new handbook effective January 1, 2010, are the latest changes to date. A Scout should complete the requirements he is working on, and when he advances to the next rank he should then begin using the new requirements.
