2017 ETHAN ALLEN
KLONDIKE  /  SPACE DERBY
HOSTED BY TROOP 116’s “DUCT TAPE PATROL”
February 4th 2017
CAMP SUNRISE, BENSON VT

Registration starts at 8:00 and the event starts at 9:00
Come and compete in challenges like lunar landing, Earth’s last defense, spacewalk and more!
The event ends with a race through space in your space faring vehicle or object.
That’s right your mission is to boldly go where no Scout has gone before in your sled dressed up as an object that could be found hurtling through space. Rocket, asteroid, U.F.O., satellite or anything else that your imaginations can come up with!
Earn extra points towards your final score by having an emergency kit with the following items;         life support/human repair kit, emergency water vessel, docking tether, multi-Purpose adhesion fabric, emergency caloric rations, the drink of astronauts, navigational equipment, nocturnal alien locator, space blanket, emergency rocket ignition system and a portable non flame, air activated heat source.
All events are based on patrols of 8 with a minimum patrol size of 5. Patrols with less than 5 will need to join forces with other smaller patrols, except for the race.
Last but not least, if at least half of your troop is present it’s a great opportunity to take part in the group OA election which is held at this event every year preceding the big race! Due to the earlier date of the Spring Camporee the election season is shortened this year. It will be difficult to get election teams out to each unit individually so, every unit that takes advantage of this opportunity helps the election teams out enormously!

Order of the Arrow Elections at the Klondike Derby

1/29/2017

This Saturday, at the Ethan Allen Klondike Derby, the Order of the Arrow (OA) will be conducting an Election.  Please consider having your Election at Camp Sunrise as a 'Scout is Thrifty'; it helps the OA to conserve manpower, resources, and allows us to ensure coverage to all units to conduct an Election.

Our Election Season is shortened this year related to Ethan Allen's Camporee being April 21st - 23rd, with the Call Out Ceremony Saturday, April 22nd at the campfire.  So Elections will close on April 10th so we can get paperwork organized and presented prior to Call Out.

Please contact Dave Nicol to access paperwork prior to Saturday.  There is a form which needs to have all eligible candidates name, address, Scout number, and other pertinent info.  It shortens the process if we're all prepared.

We're looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday.  Thank you for your time and consideration and support of the Order of the Arrow.  If you have any questions, please contact:

A gentle reminder to all Boy Scout units that effective January 1, 2017 all Scouts MUST use the new BSA Advancement requirements for all ranks. Unit leaders and unit committee members (Advancement Chairs, etc.), need to take the necessary steps to ensure each Scout is working off the the new requirements.

If the Scout does not want to purchase new books there is an insert available:
http://www.scouting.org/filestore/boyscouts/pdf/524-012_BS_Requirements_Insert.pdf

For information on specific ranks, see link below:
http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/2016BoyScoutRequirements_8.14.2015.pdf

This is important information for everyone to know and follow. Please take the time to read through the information to ensure all Scouts have complied as they move up the ladder to Eagle.

For more information or questions, contact the Council Service Center at 802-244-5189.
