Adopt A Park Program
The Green Mountain Council is partnering with Vermont State Parks
to create a program in which a local Scouting Unit adopts a State Park.
Requirements:

The local Unit selects a State Park to adopt.

The Unit agrees to communicate with a representative of the Parks Department each winter/spring to agree upon possible projects the Unit may do for the adopted park, and also what benefit the Scout Unit will receive in return.

There are a broad range of work projects to choose from depending on the level of interest and skills of the Scout Unit and the needs of a park. At the basic level poject options include:
- Spring cleanup and readying the park for opening
- Weekly assistance with a specific area of park operation
- Stacking wood
- Non native invasive plant removal
- Minor maintenance and cleaning
- Painting
- Trail work (a Unit could also adopt a trail)
- Sign and kiosk maintenance
- Visitor programming such as:
- outdoor skills
- guided hikes
- fishing clinics
- fire building
- outdoor cooking
- orienteering
- GPS
- Leave No Trace
- knots and rope work
- history
- Fall clean-up and park close down
- Waterfront maintenance
- Staffing a nature center

to find a park that will fit the needs of your Unit.

A Unit can gain camping certificates and day use entrance depending on the level of the projects completed and the long term relationship with the Parks Department. Vermont State Parks will also provide certificates of appreciation and recognize Units for their work and accomplishments on the
Vermont State Parks website.
