Three Rivers Klondike, 2010 was attended by Troops 841, 601, 70, 39, 853 and 873 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday February 26 through 28, 2010. Scouts participated in Personal Management Merit Badge work on Friday night, Snow Mobile safety training on Saturday and Sunday, Winter Survival and Wilderness Survival activities and a Rifle and black Powder Biathlon Course and Flag retirement ceremony on Saturday.  Over two thousand flags were collected and retired by Troop 39 in a well executed and moving ceremony attended by local veterans from the VFW post of Hyde Park, the American Legion Post of Cambridge and the VFW post of St. Albans. The Star Spangeled Banner was sung by Annie Rheume. Audio clips of Red Skelton on the Pledge, Francis Scott Key writing of the Star Spangled Banner and the defense of Ft McHenry. A large Silk Flag was retired from VA hospital in White River.

 

The Three Rivers District Scout Troops built and camped in Quihnzees, cooked over open fires and in Dutch ovens and enjoyed the use of Rood Pond House and the land and facilities of the Patterson Family and the Sterling Ridge Loge and Cabins.

 

The participants would like to thank Big Oak and Lightning, the range control and safety officers of Frontiers Camp, who instructed and monitored the twelve biathlon course volunteers. The course was run from ten AM til four PM Saturday. The Personal Management participants would like to thank Mr. Jeff Coslett of Union Bank Jeffersonville Branch. The 19 Snowmobile Safety course participants would like to thank the Vermont State Police Auxiliary Troopers Glenn Towne, Dave Freeman and Richard Powell of the Middlesex Barracks who provided more than seven hours of direct instruction and evaluation, including winter survival, hypothermia prevention and management, frostbite prevention and management and cold weather safety as well as snowmobile safety training and VAST Trail and state law requirements of snow mobile operation.
