2010 Jamboree Committee - Recruiting Jamboree Scoutmasters

The GMC 2010 Jamboree Committee is now recruiting highly qualified candidates for service as Scoutmasters in the three Scout troops that our Council will send to National Jamboree 2010, the Centennial Jamboree.  All who are interested are encouraged to apply.  To a great degree, the success of our Scouts’ Jamboree experience depends upon quality leadership, adult and youth.  It is said that the greatest honor in Boy Scouting is to serve as a Scoutmaster, with its challenges, and great rewards of the spirit.  To serve as a Jamboree Scoutmaster takes it one step further, to serve and live the Scouting experience intensely, in a setting that will make for lifelong memories.

The GMC Jamboree Contingent will have four adult Scoutmasters serving in each Troop:  Scoutmaster; First Assistant Scoutmaster; Second Assistant Scoutmaster; and Third Assistant Scoutmaster.  The qualifications to serve in each of these positions are found on the BSA National Jamboree Webpage.  We hope to have these qualifications posted soon on our website as well.  The Third Assistant Scoutmaster is a “bridging” leadership position, reserved for young adults between 18 and 21 years of age.  If you know of any young adults who might be interested in serving, please encourage them to apply (or, apply yourself if you are one of them!)  If you are interested in serving as a GMC Jamboree Scoutmaster, you will need to first make application through the BSA National Jamboree Website.  Before making application, carefully review the required qualifications, as well as our Council Jamboree Information Sheet, which is found on the Council Jamboree Website.  At time of your application, please also write a letter of interest addressed to Walt Morris, GMC Jamboree Committee Chair, c/o Green Mountain Council, B.S.A., P.O. Box 557, Waterbury, VT 05676.  Please give a Scouting biography, positions held, and training completed, and reasons why you wish to serve in Jamboree Troop leadership.

Our application deadline, including date for receipt of letters of interest, is January 15, 2009.  Candidate interviews, and selection of Jamboree Scoutmasters, will take place in February, 2009.  Any candidates not chosen for Jamboree Scoutmaster positions are eligible for consideration to attend and serve at the Jamboree as Staff Volunteers.  Many Green Mountain Council Scouters do that, and it is a great experience!

For any questions, please contact Walt Morris or Richard Stockton at the Council Service Center.
