GREEN MOUNTAIN COUNCIL
WOOD BADGE KANTANKY
MOUNT NORRIS SCOUT RESERVATION
MAY 4th, 2008 (Sunday)
Date: 21 March 2008
Ladies and Gentlemen and all those “Critters,”
To all of you who “hath smelt wood-smoke at twilight and hath heard the birch log burning,” the Kudu Horn sounds for you. To gather, once again, with your Wood Badge Patrols and Troops at this year’s Kantanky Luncheon. Summon your patrol members to meet at the Mount Norris Scout Reservation Dining Hall for an afternoon of Scouting fellowship. To reminisce, to join in the recognition of those who may have completed their “tickets” as they accept their Wood Badge Beads. To share stories of your course and other courses and to have some FUN!
This year’s luncheon will be extremely palate pleasing! Snacks will be available during the gathering time. Lunch will be a green salad, Statler Chicken Breast, steamed vegetables and dessert. The cost of the meal will be $19.00 per plate, with all profits going to the Wood Badge Scholarship Fund. Wood Badgers, your cooperation in responding to this Kantanky announcement as soon as you can on the attached registration form, is necessary for us to plan appropriately. It makes it extremely difficult for us if you do not let us know you are coming ahead of time. Please pre-register no later than April 26th.
I respectfully ask that you contact all of your Wood Badge friends, especially those in your patrol and invite them to “come back to Gilwell” for the afternoon. Please “spread the word!” This electronic message is the only way Kantanky is advertised.
The afternoon schedule will start at 1PM with the “gathering time” activity of our traditional “token swap” (an icebreaker.) Bring an item or items you would like to trade or just give to a special friend. The luncheon will kick off with a brief opening at 2PM. Songs will be sung, speakers will speak and presentations will be made. Every table will designate a “spokesperson” that will introduce the people seated at the table and then have a two-minute (+ or -) opportunity to speak to the group on behalf of the table.
This luncheon has become an important event for Wood Badge in the “north-country.” It is a resource that assists your fellow Scouters to attend Wood Badge. The costs, associated with Wood Badge, like everything else, are climbing but, with your help, we are doing our best to keep it affordable for our leaders to attend. I thank you for your kind support of Wood Badge in the Green Mountain Council and the Adirondack District.
A “trading post” with a few Wood Badge items is planned.
Respectfully,
George Beach
