Subject: Volunteers needed for the Bike MS 2009 Green Mountain Getaway Ride
To: buffalo_paul@myfairpoint.net

Dear Paul,

Thanks so much for returning my call this afternoon.  As I mentioned in our conversation the National MS Society, Vermont Office will be hosting the 2009 Bike MS Green Mountain Getaway the weekend of August 8th and 9th.  Nearly 300 riders will join us for the weekend and ride from 20, 40, 75 or 100 miles each day.  This is more than a ride, it is the most successful fundraising event that the Vermont Office hosts – raising nearly $250,000 or 1/3 of our yearly budget and moves us ever closer to our vision of a world free of MS!  Please see our Ride home page at the following link: National MS Society - Bike Event: bike homepageExternal Link

Our riders return time and time again because of the wonderful volunteer support they receive.  We are currently looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help in the following capacities:

Rest Stop Volunteers:   Help keep riders hydrated, feed  motivated and, energized. Rest stop volunteers keep the snacks and drinks flowing, keep an eye on riders for signs of fatigue or heat exhaustion and cheer the riders on! This is a fun activity to do with a group of friends, family, or co-workers.  It is also a great way to meet people!

Locations available on Saturday  include : Poultney Town Green, Mattawee School (lunchstop).  Sunday locations are: Estabrook, Shoreham Town Green, Brandbury State Park and Whipplehollow Hydroponics Farm

Support and Gear (SAG) Drivers:  Using your own car, truck or van, patrol the route helping cyclists in need. Whether a flat tire, worn out rider, or branches in the road, our SAG Drivers help keep our riders safe and supported throughout the day. (Bike racks may be available from the MS Society)

Grill Masters at the Finish Line:  The event closes with a Barbeque Celebration at Castleton State College from 1 – 4pm on Sunday. Come help feed and celebrate a fantastic weekend in support of people with MS.

Volunteers are invited to join in our festivities for a few hours or throughout the weekend.  Those who choose to volunteer both days receive free room and board at Castleton.

For more information please contact Martha.richardson@nmss.org or call the Vermont Office (802.864.56356) and mention that you are interested in joining the MS Movement as a volunteer for the Bike MS Ride August 8th or 9th

Thanks so much!
