An Introduction to Marketing
The Green Mountain Council has initiated an effort to train and assist units and districts in how to educate local communities, parents, youth, potential chartered partners and potential volunteers through increased and better marketing by each unit in its local area. A PowerPoint presentation was prepared and presented to each district Roundtable.
Every significant individual accomplishment within the unit could and should be the basis of a news release.
These accomplishments include:
- accepting new youth and volunteer members
- youth advancement
- leadership training and assumption of new leadership roles
- youth officer positions
- unit rechartering
- unit activities such as outings, camping trips and community service projects.
To assist units in these endeavors, the council has created a special web page on its web site, http://www.scoutingvermont.org//eu.aspx?url=council%2fmarketing
, which includes educational materials regarding marketing as well as sample model news releases. The council has suggested that units initiate these efforts by appointing a unit marketing chair and who will develop a working relationship with the local weekly newspaper. Thereafter, the chair will submit news releases to local media and help coordinate unit marketing activities.
Districts are also asked to appoint a district marketing chair to support and encourage the work of unit marketing chairs.
