How the Friends of Scouting (FOS) Campaign is Conducted

The Green Mountain Council FOS campaign is a two-pronged effort - with a District/Community enrollment, and a Family enrollment. Both of these efforts are vitally important to the overall success of the campaign. Each of the districts in the council has its own volunteer chairperson.

A top-level volunteer conducts the District/Community enrollment. This person recruits a group of other volunteers to make personal calls on potential contributors. In addition, a key part of the District/Community chairperson's job is to develop and work new prospects. They should encourage each campaign volunteer to develop two to four new prospects.

The Family enrollment is conducted with the Cub Scout packs and Boy Scout troops in each district. Its purpose is to give the Scout families the opportunity to support their sons' program. The Family Enrollment Chairperson in the district should recruit sufficient volunteers to make a group presentation to each unit. The presentation should ideally be done at a Blue and Gold banquet or a Troop Court of Honor. Families are given the opportunity at the meeting to enroll as Friends of Scouting.

Timing of Enrollment

The campaign is conducted each year from January through June. The Family enrollment is conducted primarily in January through March. The District/Community enrollment is conducted at a time convenient for the chairperson of the campaign volunteers. Except in special cases where a fall campaign is conducted in non-United Way communities, all campaigns should be completed by June 30th.
