Letter from the Camp Director
Dear Scoutmaster:
Welcome to the internet home of Mt. Norris Scout Reservation! In the tradition of the Green Mountain Council I invite you to experience the wonders of this jewel in the Northeast Kingdom. Nestled between 2,575 foot high Mt. Norris and Lake Eden, Scouts are able to enjoy the many adventures expected from a week-long summer camp experience. I hope you will join the Mt. Norris staff and I as we “celebrate the journey” of Scouting’s past 100 years, while looking forward to “continuing the adventure” for the next 100 years!
Just as our Scouts look forward to once again calling Mt. Norris their home, I too look to this experience as one I will remember for years to come. For those of you who may not know me allow this to serve as a brief introduction: while in college I spent several summers working at my home council’s camp in the Adirondack Mountains. Over the years I held the positions of Outdoor Skills Director, Aquatics Director, Voyageur and High Adventure Director. I also served as an assistant scoutmaster for my troop when I was 18. After having spent several summers attending camp as a youth, I am well versed in the Scout’s outdoor program and know the challenges scoutmasters and youth leaders grow through while at camp for a week.
With this knowledge my staff and I will strive to offer the best camping experience for your youth. A new cooking experience for your unit will begin in 2010. Each Thursday your troop will be supplied with all the ingredients to cook a meal in camp. You just bring pots, pans, stoves and enthusiasm to make this meal! We supply the rest.
Our most popular programs like the Mountain Adventure, First-Year Adventure and counselor-in-training program will continue. Over the next few months our staff will develop new programming: including one for adult leaders.
As always when a new camp director begins to guide a staff, some things will change. I promise to you these changes will be well communicated and designed to better serve the Scouts attending camp. The 2010 leaders guide will be posted to this website before January. Each Boy Scout troop and Venture crew will receive a copy of this guide. It will also be displayed on the Green Mountain Council website. Please check www.scoutingvermont.org for any updates to the leader’s guide.
Allow me to be the first to welcome you to the 2010 season at Mount Norris Scout Reservation. We look forward to serving you this summer!
