Calvin Coolidge Spring Camporee 2008
Hosted by Springfield Troop 252

When:  May 9-11, 2008
Where: Camp Plymouth State Park
Theme: Armed Forces

For the brave and/or foolish there will be a polar bear swim (actually more of a jump in the water) at 6:30 AM on Saturday.

At the opening ceremony on Saturday there will be a uniform inspection.

Saturday morning will include service project for Camp Plymouth State Park. This will include moving picnic tables; moving paddle boats, canoes and boats from storage to the lake; mulching; and general clean up.

Proposed Activities:

Navy: Boats, Canoes, and Kayaks—Each troop needs to provide a copy of the Unit Swim classification Record showing whether each Scout is a swimmer, beginner, or non-swimmer. Only Swimmers can use kayaks. Beginners can use boats. Non-swimmers can be in boats only with swimmer. Each troop must provide 2 safety afloat trained adults while the troop is using area.

Army: Rifle range—Certified instructor will be running the range. Rifles and ammunition will be provided. Scouts are not to bring their own rifles.

Marines: Obstacle course.

Air Force: Flying—Bring you paper airplane making skills with you. There will be prizes for best design, furthest flight and most creative plane.

Special Event: Water balloon launch using 3-man slingshot.

There will be a card for people sign thanking our military troops for their service to and sacrifice to our country.

There will be a prize for the winner of each of the 5 events. All awards and prizes will be given out during Sunday morning’s closing ceremony.

There will be a dutch oven dessert cook off. This is for Scouts only and there will be a special prize for the winning troop.

Plan on bringing you best joke (clean, of course) and a skit related to our theme for the Saturday evening campfire. I’m told that reading the Beatle Bailey comic strip will give you ideas for skits.

The Order of the Arrow call out ceremony will be held as part of the campfire program.

Cub Scout Program:    The Cub Scout program will feature a cubmobile race and will include many of the activities in the Scout program with the exception of the boats, canoes and kayaks. Cubs will also not be allowed to use rifles. We will instead use slingshots and paint balls.

Anyone who will be driving the cub mobile must wear pants and a helmet. Instructions for the cub mobile are included in a separate document.
