Westchester Putnam Council - Hawthorne, NY
The Curtis S. Read Scout Reservation is a 1,000 acre facility located in the town of Brant Lake, NY. Brant Lake is approximately thirty minutes north of Lake George, NY and about 45 minutes southwest of the Crown Point bridge.
The Read Scout Reservation is comprised of three camps and offers an outstanding, varied program that is sure to meet the needs of any troop and their Scouts. We operate a dining hall in Camp Buckskin, patrol cooking in Camp Waubeeka and week-long treks throughout the Adirondack Mountains from the Summit High Adventure Base.
In addition to the traditional summer camp merit badges and tenderfoot through first class rank advancement programs, we offer a wide variety of activities that include horseback riding, caving, COPE, indoor climbing wall, rock climbing and rappelling, a slide for life into a pond and whitewater rafting. We also have a tremendous high adventure rock climbing trip that challenges Scouts at several popular climbing sites in the Adirondack Park.
The major strengths of Read are twofold – our staff and our food. We have a fantastic camp staff with an extremely high percentage of them returning year after year. All of our camp directors and the Reservation Director have successful prior years experience in their position. The staff is in camp to serve the needs of the campers. Their actions and willingness to always work harder to help campers results in a very high level of camper and leader satisfaction. The quality and quantity of the food cannot be equaled in a summer camp. We are very fortunate to have an excellent chef who also manages all of our food services. No youth goes home hungry.
